FTC Guidelines for Patient Leaders

Whether the guidelines should address the use of affiliate links by licensors; What disclosures do advertisers or operators of review sites need to make about the collection and processing of review posts to prevent them from being deceptive or unfair.

Hello, everyone! I am a patient advocate and health technologist. I would like to share with you the following comments and perspectives on the Patient Leadership Disclosure guidelines recently released by the FTC. Guidelines help to promote transparency in the industry. Clear disclosure of brand partnerships and promotional content enables audiences to make more accurate judgments about our information and recommendations, which helps improve transparency and credibility in the industry.

Disclosure requirements are more practical. The current disclosure requirements are fairly basic, requiring that each tweet or video clearly state the business relationship and the products we promote, which is practical and easy for patient leaders to adopt and implement.

Codification of existing elements into formal rules to make violators bear the responsibility of civil punishment; Requirements that the company must comply with in its contractual arrangements with influencers, including through example clauses that the company can include in the contract.

It needs to be further enforced strictly. While the FTC has developed this guidance, without real enforcement and penalties, it cannot guarantee true compliance by all patient leaders. The FTC needs to establish a rigorous monitoring and reporting system to oversee the implementation of the guidelines.

The large number of patient leaders and the haphazard nature of the industry make guidelines difficult to implement. But with the right direction, these obstacles can still be overcome step by step. Clear positioning of patient leaders.

I went back and refreshed myself. I had taken the course, but knew I needed to remind myself about disclosing.

This course was helpful to understand the requirements related to disclosures.

One thing about the course though is that it looks like in order to officially complete the course I have to sign into Twitter. I don’t use Twitter though… please consider adding other options like Facebook or maybe an option that says I posted the message on my blog.

Why does the FTC expect everything to be told at the beginning? I feel like it makes it hard to bring people in with my first line which is important in story telling. I have been doing book reviews and was never told saying I got an ARC from the publisher and all opinions are my own at the end.
